Outcomes without ego: A leadership conversation with Jason Warner

In this episode of Catalyst, Tammy sits down with Jason Warner, co-founder and CEO of Poolside and former CTO of GitHub. Jason is a visionary who has spent the last two decades shaping how we build software. At Poolside, he and his team are using artificial general intelligence to fundamentally reimagine software creation. Tammy and Jason discuss humane leadership, the future of AI in the enterprise and how to prepare for an intelligence-driven world.
Highlights from the episode include:
- You can win big and still lead with respect. Jason challenges Silicon Valley’s narrative that success requires being ruthless. He believes outsized outcomes are possible while treating people as fully formed humans rather than disposable parts.
- Growth companies versus cost companies. There’s a difference between using AI to expand capabilities and using it to cut costs. Growth-minded companies will ask how AI can make their workforce of 10,000 feel like 30,000. Cost-focused companies will ask how to reduce that same 10,000 people to 6,000 or less.
- Junior employees are about to become incredibly valuable. Rather than replacing junior workers, AI can serve as an infinitely patient senior mentor with a trove of institutional knowledge. The organizations who use AI to accelerate onboarding and turn juniors into seniors faster will gain enormous competitive advantage.
