In this episode of Catalyst, Tammy is joined by Shulagna Dasgupta, founder of AI advisory firm Ochin and host of the AI-isms podcast. After more than two decades at Accenture, working as a VP-level CEO advisor for large-scale transformations, Shulagna stepped away to study what she calls AI-isms: the habits that help leaders make sure their people grow alongside AI rather than get left behind. Tammy and Shulagna dig into how AI is redefining reskilling, empowering people outside of their functional roles and even rewriting power dynamics in the workplace.

Highlights from the episode include:

• AI can expand what reskilling looks like. In the past, reskilling meant moving from point A to point B within the same function. AI makes it easier for people to learn across disciplines and move toward entirely new roles. HR professionals are moving into sales, artists are building community platforms and physicians creating wellness apps. The ceiling on where someone can go has been lifted.
• Capacity gained through AI can fuel new ideas. Remember that great idea from your last company offsite? Use the time freed up by AI to pursue it! We have the tools and capacity to chase innovation in a way that simply wasn’t possible before.
• Leaders should build with AI themselves. Shulagna sees a difference in leaders who’ve gotten their hands dirty building with AI and those leading transformation from a distance. Prompting a chat bot isn’t enough. Building reveals — up close — what the technology is capable of. It also changes how leaders see their people and what those employees could become.
