Changing the culture of IT: A conversation with Raj Singh

In this episode of Catalyst, Tammy is joined by Raj Singh, Global CIO at Visteon. Raj has been in tech leadership roles for almost 30 years at companies like DTE Energy and Ford Direct. He is a hands-on executive with a simple motto: “We’re in business to move business.”  Tammy and Raj dig into culture, leadership and the growing importance of IT in business strategy and innovation.

• The IT team isn’t backstage anymore. Raj lights up when his business partners in finance, operations, sales and other departments call him in early. IT’s role in business is evolving from a support function to a side-by-side partner in solving business problems.
• Lead first, change follows. To shift culture, Raj leads by example. That means staying late and showing up on the weekend if necessary. That’s how you move from “It’s fine if it’s late” to a culture of accountability.
• Agility is no longer optional. In China, Raj saw firsthand how fast the automotive industry is changing in response to global competition and technological advancements. His mindset: If you can do it in an hour, don’t wait 24 hours.
